Songs Matching the Movie
A small fanmix for the TV Movie! Click each title to view the video, lyrics, and short explanation as to why I find this a fitting song. (Also fitting: there are 8 songs here, and I didn't even plan it that way. #unconsciousfangirling xD)
Halo - Beyonce
This song describes TV Movie!Eight to a T: angelic, noble, and gentle. But even at the end of his life in Night of the Doctor, he is still very much the kind of man described in the lyrics!
Lyrics
Remember those walls I built?
Well, baby, they're tumbling down
And they didn't even put up a fight
They didn't even make a sound
I found a way to let you in
But I never really had a doubt
Standing in the light of your halo,
I got my angel now
[Pre-Chorus] It's like I've been awakened
Every rule I had, you breakin'
It's the risk that I'm taking
I ain't never gonna shut you out!
[Chorus] Everywhere I'm looking now
I'm surrounded by your embrace
Baby, I can see your halo
You know you're my saving grace
You're everything I need and more
It's written all over your face
Baby, I can feel your halo
Pray it won't fade away
[Echo] I can feel your halo, halo, halo
I can see your halo, halo, halo
I can feel your halo, halo, halo
I can see your halo, halo...
Halo, ooh ooh...
Hit me like a ray of sun
Burning through my darkest night
You're the only one that I want
Think I'm addicted to your light
I swore I'd never fall again
But this don't even feel like falling
Gravity can't begin
To pull me back to the ground again
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Echo x2]
[Bridge] Halo, ooh ooh...
Halo, ooh ooh...
Halo, ooh ooh, oh...
[Chorus]
[Echo x2]
Almost Unreal - Roxette
The speaker of this song expresses the mystery and magic she sees in her partner--very much the way Grace seems to see the Eighth Doctor (and even foreshadowing how some of his other companions come to feel as well). Though he is a sweet little cinnamon roll, he also has depth, intelligence, and intensity as well.
Lyrics
Babe, come in from the cold
And put that coat to rest
Step inside, take a deep breath,
And do what you do best
Yes, kick off them shoes
And leave those city streets
I do believe love came our way,
And fate did arrange for us to meet
[Chorus] I love when you do that hocus pocus to me
The way that you touch,
You've got the power to heal
You give me that look--
It's almost unreal
It's almost unreal...
Hey, we can't stop the rain,
Let's find a place by the fire
Sometimes I feel, strange as it seems
You've been in my dreams all my life
[Chorus]
It's a crazy world out there
(It's a crazy...)
Let's hope our prayers are in good hands tonight
Oh, I love when you do that hocus pocus to me
The way that you touch,
You've got the power to heal
You give me that look--
It's almost unreal
It's almost unreal, so unreal
Yeah, come on and do the hocus pocus to me
The way that you touch,
You've got the power to heal
You give me that look--
It's almost unreal
It's almost unreal, yeah...
It's almost unreal...
(Do the hocus pocus to me)
(Do the hocus pocus...) [fade out]
Last Night a D.J. Saved My Life - Indeep
I have a HILARIOUS mental music video using this as background music for clips from the TV Movie--it fits awesomely if you take it as Grace's perspective! "Last Night the Doctor Saved My Life," indeed! (Also the rap part at the end about "Away goes trouble down the drain" makes me think of the Master getting sucked down into the Eye of Harmony, too!)
Lyrics
Last night a DJ saved my life
Last night a DJ saved my life, yeah
'Cause I was sittin' there bored to death
And in just one breath, he said:
"You gotta get up,
You gotta get on,
You gotta get down girl"
You know you drive me crazy, baby
You've got me turning to another man
Called you on the phone
No one's home
Baby, why ya leave me all alone
And if it wasn't for the music
I don't know what I'd do, yeah
[Chorus] Last night a DJ saved my life
Last night a DJ saved my life from a broken heart
Last night a DJ saved my life
Last night a DJ saved my life with a song
You know I hopped into my car
Didn't get very far, no
Because I had you on my mind
Why be so unkind?
You've got your women all around
All around this town
But I was trapped in love with you
And I didn't know what to do
But when I turned on my radio
I found out all I needed to know
Check it out:
[Chorus x2]
[Spoken] Hey listen up to your local DJ
You better hear what he's got to say:
[Rap] There's not a problem that I can't fix
'Cause I can do it in the mix
And if your man gives you trouble
Just you move out on the double
And you don't let it trouble your brain
'Cause away goes troubles
Down the drain
I said away goes troubles
Down the drain
[Spoken]Well, all right!
[Slowly Spoken] Last night a DJ saved my life...
[Rap] There's not a problem that I can't fix
'Cause I can do it in the mix
'Cause I can do it in the mix, in the mix, in the mix...
Dangerous (feat. Sam Martin) - David Guetta
This fits the mood of the second half of the film, with the car chase sequence and action fraught with danger and threat. It's darkly urban, techno/dance-influenced, and needs to be put with a TV Movie music video like yesterday. xD
Lyrics
You take me down
Spin me around
You got me running all the lights
Don't make a sound
Talk to me now
Let me inside your mind
[Pre-Chorus] I don't know what you're thinkin', sugar
But I just got that feelin', sugar
I can hear the sirens burnin'
Red lights turnin'
I can't turn back now
So hold on tight
[Chorus] I don't know where the lights are taking us
But something in the night is dangerous
And nothing's holding back the two of us
Baby this is getting serious
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Dangerous
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh...
Show me your soul
I gotta know
Bet that you're beautiful inside
Toes on the glass
Car moving fast
Come take the wheel and drive
[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]
[Bridge] It's dangerous, so dangerous
I wanna do it again
Come on baby
It's dangerous, so dangerous
I wanna do it again
It's dangerous, so dangerous
I wanna do it again!...
[Chorus]
Listen to Your Heart - D.H.T.
This is a fitting song for the end of the film, as Grace is deciding whether or not to go with Eight. She does pause to give it some thought (though in this fan's opinion, she chooses wrong, LOL)!
I know there's something
In the wake of your smile
I get a notion
From the look in your eyes, yeah
You've built a love, but that love falls apart;
Your little piece of heaven turns too dark...
[Chorus] Listen to your heart
When he's calling for you
Listen to your heart;
There's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
but listen to your heart
before you tell him goodbye.
Sometimes you wonder
If this fight is worthwhile
The precious moments
Are all lost in the tide, yeah
They're swept away, and nothing is what it seems;
The feeling of belonging to your dreams...
[Chorus]
And there are voices that want to be heard
So much to mention, but you can't find the words
The scent of magic, the beauty that's been
When love was wilder than the wind...
[Chorus]
Listen to your heart, mm-mmmmmm...
I don't know where you're going
and I don't know why,
but listen to your heart...
before...
you tell him goodbye.
Gotta Tell You - Samantha Mumba
Another one from Grace's POV, perfectly encapsulating the dilemma she faces at the end of the film--does she trust this strange amazing man, who is most certainly not from the same planet and may not even have the same capacity for feelings?
Lyrics
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Your love for me came as a waterfall
Flowin' inside me like never before
Your love for me, somethin' I didn't see
But baby, I know better now
When you walked in the room that very night
A special feelin' just burst inside
It was only you, nobody else
But baby, I know better now...
[Chorus] Don't wanna love you if you don't love me
Don't wanna need you when you won't need me too
Don't wanna tell you this now, but it wouldn't be right
If I didn't tell you this tonight
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
And now you're back inside my house again
I'm tryin' deeper to explain
'Cause baby, I wanna get it on
And baby, you're the one for me
But now that I have got you all alone
After all this talkin' on the phone
I should be strong, there's nothing wrong
I'll tell you this is where you belong (where you belong)
[Chorus x2]
It was just something in your eyes
That made me realize
But now I hear voices deep inside
Tellin' me, tellin' me...
[Chorus x2]
Close (feat. Tove Lo) - Nick Jonas
This is a cool yet emotionally/sexually charged duet; in the case of Eight and Grace, the song's main message rings with the sentiment of "what might have been," the unspoken dilemma between the two of them. Grace is too cautious to throw everything she has on Earth away to travel with Eight, and Eight is too unstable in himself, having just undergone a serious trauma.
Lyrics
[Nick Jonas:] Oh damn, oh damn, oh damn
I'm so perplexed, with just one breath, I'm locked in
Oh damn, oh damn, oh damn
I'm so perplexed on that, it's almost shocking
I know, I know, you know, you're scared
Your heart, your mind, your soul, your body
They won't, they won't, they won't be careful
But I guess that you don't know me
Cause if I want you, and I want you, babe
Ain't going backwards, won't ask for space
Cause space was just a word made up
By someone who's afraid to get too...
[Chorus] Close, ooh
Oh, so close, ooh
I want you close, ooh
Cause space was just a word made up
By someone who's afraid to get close, ooh
Oh, so close, ooh
I want you close, ooh
Oh, I want you close, and close ain't close enough, no
[Tove Lo:] Oh man, oh man,
I am not really known for ever being speechless
But now, but now, somehow,
My words roll off my tongue right onto your lips, oh
I'm keeping cool while you keep smiling
Saying all the things I'm thinking
Oh man, oh man
I am like you so I want proof I'm what you're feeling
Cause if I want you, and I want you, babe
Ain't going backwards, won't ask for space
Cause space was just a word made up
By someone who's afraid to get too...
[Both sing Chorus]
[NJ] Cause if I want you, and I want you, babe,
Ain't going backwards, won't ask for space
Cause space was just a word made up
By someone who's afraid to get too... close!
[Chorus]
Sugarhigh - Jade Anderson
The speaker of this song sings of having had a connection with a wonderful, mystical, irresistible man, but the connection seems to be in the past--she had to "leave his side" even though it hurt. Sure sounds like Grace's POV to me, especially post-TV Movie.
Lyrics
Once I loved someone so deep
It hurt to leave his side
He was wonderful, lovable,
He was truly just so beautiful
I feel so blessed he came my way...
[Chorus] Sugar sweet, my sugar high
Sweetest taste I'll ever try
Your love is what I can't deny
I love you, I love you, I love you
Sugar sweet, I've realized,
Just one look into your eyes
Slowly gets me hypnotized
I love you, I love you, I love you
His love was far beyond wealth and gold
So much from one would I learn
He was the delicate morning rain
That fell to wash away my pain
And bring me warmth in return
He was magical, mystical,
Simply irresistible
This love I can't convey
Oh, so wonderful, lovable,
He was truly just so beautiful
I feel so blessed he came my way...
[Chorus]
[Bridge] Your love feels so amazing
Never thought I would have found you, baby
To hold you, just to be near you
I love you, I love you, I love you
[Half-Chorus] Sugar sweet, my sugar high,
Sweetest taste I'll ever try
Your love is what I can't deny
I love you, I love you, I love you...
Oh, so wonderful, lovable
He was truly just so beautiful...
(So beautiful...)
[Chorus]
[Bridge]
[Half-Chorus; fade out]
